Hydraulic Components FAQ
What materials are best for high-pressure hydraulic components?
Steel 4140 is the standard choice for hydraulic cylinders and pumps — good strength, machinability, and proven long service life under pressure cycling. Stainless steel 316 is used when corrosion resistance is required (offshore, marine, chemical environments). 17-4 PH stainless is specified for maximum strength-to-weight ratio in critical aerospace applications. Aluminium 6061-T6 is used for light hydraulic systems where weight matters. All materials are selected to withstand your operating pressure and cycles without fatigue failure.
What tolerances can you hold on cylinder bores?
Cylinder bore tolerance is critical for seal performance and leak prevention. We hold ±0.05mm as standard on cylinder bores. For applications requiring tighter seal control, we achieve ±0.025mm. High-precision honing can achieve ±0.01mm on bore diameter and roundness. Surface finish is typically Ra 0.4–0.8µm for reliable seal contact.
Can you manufacture hydraulic parts to ISO standards?
Yes. We design and manufacture to ISO 4401 (valve cavity geometry), ISO 4413 (hydraulic safety), ISO 5597 (test conditions), and other relevant standards. Our hydraulic manifolds are designed for standard cavity interfaces and cavity pressure ratings. All components are certified to meet ISO standards for performance and safety.
What is the typical lead time for hydraulic components?
Simple components (pistons, rods, fittings) can be delivered in 7–10 business days. Moderate complexity (small manifolds, cylinder heads) typically take 10–15 business days. Large or complex systems (multi-cavity manifolds, large cylinders with ports and passages) may take 20–30 business days. Assembly and testing adds 3–5 days.
Do you offer surface treatments for corrosion resistance?
Yes. Surface treatments are available: hard chrome plating for wear resistance on piston rods and valve spools, stainless steel material selection for corrosion environments, and protective coatings (epoxy, polyester) for manifold blocks. All treatments are quoted as part of your component order and maintained throughout manufacturing.
Can you manufacture replacement parts for hydraulic systems?
Yes. We manufacture replacement hydraulic components for standard cylinders, pumps, and control systems. If you have an existing system and need spare parts, send us your component or specification, and we will manufacture replacements to the same standard. This is often faster and more cost-effective than sourcing OEM spares.
