Manifold FAQs
What materials are best for high-pressure manifolds?
Aluminium 6061-T6 is the standard choice for most hydraulic and pneumatic manifolds due to its excellent machinability, strength, and anodising response. Stainless steel 316 and 316L are used for corrosion-critical applications (marine, chemical). Brass is used for low-pressure air or vacuum manifolds. Titanium and Inconel are selected for aerospace high-temperature applications. We recommend the material based on your pressure rating and environment.
Can you machine complex internal passages?
Yes. Complex internal passages, blind holes, and cross-drilled features are a core capability. We use 5-axis CNC milling with through-spindle coolant to machine intricate internal geometries without tool breakage. Passages as small as 1.5mm diameter are possible. Blind holes and intersecting cross-drills are routinely machined. Discuss passage diameter and intersection angles during quoting.
What tolerances can you hold on manifold port positions?
Standard CNC milling holds ±0.05mm on port centre positions. For sandwich manifolds or manifolds with precise stacking interfaces, we hold ±0.02mm. High-precision work with CMM verification achieves ±0.01mm. Specify your tolerance requirements and we will plan the most cost-effective setup.
What is the typical lead time for custom manifolds?
Lead time for one-off manifolds is 5–15 business days depending on complexity. Simple manifolds with 5–8 ports: 5–7 days. Complex manifolds with internal passages and many features: 10–15 days. Expedited services available for critical applications. Request a quote with your required delivery date.
Can you pressure-test manifolds after machining?
Yes. We arrange pressure testing through our quality partners. Manifolds can be tested at your specified pressure (up to 3000 psi typical) to verify leak-free performance. Test results and certifications are provided. Specify your test pressure and acceptance criteria on your drawing.
Do you offer design assistance for manifold layouts?
Yes. Our engineering team can review your manifold requirements and suggest layouts, port positions, and material selections. We provide CAD modelling for complex manifolds. If you have a concept but no formal drawing, send details of your application, and we will create a preliminary design for your approval before quoting.
