What materials are best for lightweight chassis?

Aluminium 7075-T6 offers the best strength-to-weight ratio for lightweight chassis — 40% stronger than 6061-T6 while remaining 60% lighter than steel. For extreme weight savings, we can also manufacture in titanium Grade 5. Magnesium alloys are also available for aerospace applications. For most applications, aluminium 6061-T6 provides an excellent balance of strength, machinability, and cost.

What tolerances can you hold on chassis dimensions?

CNC machined chassis typically hold tolerances of ±0.05mm on general features, ±0.03mm on critical assembly features, and ±0.01mm on precision locating surfaces. For high-precision chassis requiring component alignment, we offer tolerance stacks to ±0.005mm with CMM verification.
