What materials are best for heavy-duty blocks?

Steel 4140 is the standard choice for heavy-duty blocks — tensile strength 655 MPa, excellent machinability, and superior rigidity for machinery and industrial applications. Stainless steel 316 offers corrosion resistance with good strength for chemical and marine environments. For aerospace applications, consider 17-4 PH stainless (1310 MPa) or titanium. Aluminium 7075-T6 is ideal for weight-critical applications requiring high strength-to-weight ratio.

What tolerances can you hold on block dimensions?

Standard CNC machining on blocks achieves ±0.05mm on all dimensions. Precision machining with CMM verification can hold ±0.01mm. For critical bearing surfaces or seal surfaces, we recommend finishing operations to achieve ±0.005mm or better. Flatness and straightness are typically within ±0.05mm per 100mm for standard machining.

Do you offer surface treatments for corrosion resistance?

Yes. Surface treatments are managed as part of our supply service. We arrange anodising (for aluminium blocks), hard chrome plating, electroless nickel plating, and stainless steel material selection.
