UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) is an engineering plastic with exceptional wear resistance, low friction characteristics, and high impact strength. UHMWPE exhibits outstanding abrasion resistance (better than most metals in sliding applications), self-lubricating properties, excellent chemical resistance, and low density. It is used for wear liners, conveyor components, bushings, and sliding surfaces in demanding applications.
What are the advantages of UHMWPE over metals?
UHMWPE offers one-sixth the weight of steel while maintaining exceptional wear resistance, self-lubricating surfaces (no grease required), superior impact resistance, excellent chemical resistance, non-corrosive in all environments, and cost-effective wear replacement. UHMWPE extends equipment life in conveying and sliding applications while eliminating lubrication requirements.
What tolerances can you hold on UHMWPE parts?
UHMWPE machines to good tolerances. Standard CNC machining achieves ±0.1mm on general features. High-precision UHMWPE machining achieves ±0.05mm. UHMWPE has thermal expansion characteristics and some creep under sustained load — consult our engineers for tight-tolerance critical dimensions.
What grades of UHMWPE do you work with?
We work with standard virgin UHMWPE (GUR resin, excellent wear resistance, low friction) and food-contact grades. UHMWPE is supplied as unfilled material. Specify your application requirements and we will confirm suitability.
