Canberra Industries We Serve
Canberra is Australia's centre for defence, government, and research. We understand the documentation standards and compliance requirements that ACT procurement demands.
Defence Agencies & Government
Canberra is home to the Department of Defence, Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), and numerous defence agencies. Procurement typically requires ISO 9001:2015 minimum, with AS9100-D for hardware. We provide a full documentation package: material certifications, dimensional inspection reports, certificates of conformance, and AS9100-D documentation. CDRL, QAP, and SQAP preparation available.
Research Institutions
CSIRO, Australian National University (ANU), and multiple ACT research agencies require precision custom components for experimental apparatus, scientific instruments, and research equipment. No minimum order quantity — single prototype components are quoted and manufactured as readily as production runs. DFM feedback included.
Australian Federal Police
AFP technical, forensic, and operational equipment requires precision machined components for specialised equipment, fleet support, and operational hardware. Full material traceability and documentation provided. NDAs standard.
ADFA & Military Colleges
Australian Defence Force Academy training equipment and precision components for military educational, testing, and simulation applications. AS9100-aware sourcing and full documentation packages available for ADFA and related defence educational institutions.
Government ICT & Telecommunications
Precision enclosures, RF shielding components, custom rackmount hardware, and precision mechanical elements for government ICT infrastructure. Tight tolerances, EMC-rated materials, and documentation-backed supply chains.
Construction & Infrastructure
ACT's ongoing infrastructure development — including light rail expansion, building, and civil works — requires custom mechanical and structural components. Large-format machining and precision inserts for fabricated assemblies.
CNC Machining Canberra FAQ
How does Rapid Manufacturing serve Canberra and ACT clients?
Canberra and ACT clients submit their 3D files (STEP, IGES) and 2D drawings through our online quote system and receive a detailed quote within 2 business days. We understand the documentation requirements of government and defence procurement — our team can prepare a full documentation package including material certifications (CMTR/mill certs), dimensional inspection reports, and certificates of conformance (CoC). Once approved, we source components through our audited supplier network, with AS9100-D certified suppliers available for defence and aerospace requirements. Finished, inspected components are delivered to your Canberra or ACT address with complete paperwork.
Can you supply components to Australian Government agencies?
Yes. We supply components to Australian Government departments and agencies. Our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system meets standard government procurement quality requirements. We provide a full documentation package: material certification (CMTR/mill certs), dimensional inspection reports, certificate of conformance (CoC), and AS9100-D documentation where required. We are familiar with defence procurement documentation requirements including CDRL (Contract Data Requirements List), QAP (Quality Assurance Plan), and SQAP (Supplier Quality Assurance Plan), and can prepare these as required. Non-disclosure agreements are standard with all orders.
What is AS9100 and do you hold this certification?
AS9100 Rev D is the aerospace and defence quality management standard, extending ISO 9001:2015 with additional requirements for risk management, first article inspection (FAI), configuration control, and key characteristics. Rapid Manufacturing operates under ISO 9001:2015. For aerospace and defence components requiring AS9100, we select suppliers from our network who hold current AS9100-D certification — certification details for specific suppliers are provided upon request. ITAR-compliant suppliers are also available for controlled technology where required.
What lead times can Canberra clients expect?
Standard lead times for Canberra and ACT clients: quote within 2 business days from file submission, standard production 7–14 business days from order confirmation, and express production (3–5 business days) available for urgent requirements. Complex components requiring 5-axis machining, EDM, or exotic materials typically require 3–4 weeks. Delivery from our supplier network to Canberra and ACT addresses is typically 2–3 business days.
What file formats does Rapid Manufacturing accept for quoting?
Rapid Manufacturing accepts STEP (.stp, .step) as the preferred 3D format for all CNC machined components. We also accept IGES (.igs, .iges), Parasolid (.x_t), SOLIDWORKS (.sldprt), CATIA (.catpart), Autodesk Inventor (.ipt), and ACIS (.sat). 2D drawings (PDF, DXF, DWG) should accompany 3D files to specify tolerances, surface finishes, GD&T callouts, and inspection notes. For components without 3D models, 2D drawings alone are accepted — we will model the part and confirm before quoting.
Can you supply single prototype components for research?
Yes. There is no minimum order quantity. Research institutions and universities are core customers — single-off experimental components, scientific instrument parts, and test equipment components are routinely quoted and manufactured. DFM (Design for Manufacture) feedback is included with every quote at no charge. A prototype-to-production pathway is available when research projects move from development to deployment. CSIRO, ANU, and ACT government research agencies are all within scope — contact us to discuss your specific research component requirements.
